We Are Super Readers Celebration!

During the past couple of months, we learned about all of the reading super powers we can learn and use while we read. Today, we each "brought a book to life" by practicing these skills and reading our book aloud to the class. We finished with Super Reader cookies and our capes and masks, of course!

Please enjoy the video of our hard work!

New Year, New Goals!

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday vacation with your families! The students returned to school today full of energy and stories about their time at home. We discussed the new year holiday and how different cultures celebrate it. We read several books, watched Pete the Cat's Groovy New Year and even wrote our own goals/resolutions. I am excited to get the second half of our school year started with this awesome group of kiddos!

I want to like Pete and my dad and mom.

I want to clean my room.

I want to eat with my family.

I want to be kind to people.

I am going to clean.

I want to clean Madeline's room.

I want to sing.

I want to clean my room.

I want to play with Quin.

I want to clean my sister's room.

I want to go to ballet camp.

I am going to try to have time to go to the flex space.

I want to help my mom and dad.

Pumpkin Patch Fun!

We had a wonderful field trip to Parker's Pumpkin Patch in Williston today! We started our day with a slide show of pumpkin pictures and Mrs. Parker taught us all about how pumpkins grow. We then got to observe various pumpkins and squash and described what they looked like and felt like. Mrs. Parker made lots of yummy pumpkin foods for us to try, including pumpkin puree, pumpkin applesauce, roasted pumpkin seeds, pumpkin dip, and pumpkin cookies. Yum yum! At the end of our trip, we got to choose our very own pumpkin to bring home! Please enjoy looking at the photos from our trip.

Fire Safety Day

Last Friday, volunteers from the Hinesburg Fire Department visited H.C.S. to discuss fire safety with the K-2 grades. We heard Mr. Spivack discuss Stop, Drop, and Roll, family safety plans, what to do if there is an emergency and we watched a firefighter get his gear on. We also got to go outside and visit a fire engine and a medical vehicle. We even got to spray a fire hose! Please enjoy these photos of our day!
