Snowmen at Night

With the cold temperatures and winter weather, what better topic to talk about than snowmen! We read the book Snowmen at Night and created beautiful snowmen. We then wrote about what we thought our snowmen would do at night. Please enjoy the Photo Story of our project!

Digital Wish

Please consider donating to our Digital Wish project! We are hoping to raise funds to cover the cost of protective covers for our new iPads, as well as some learning apps to use in the classroom. You can donate at this link or by sending money in to your child's teacher. Thank you for supporting this special project!

Brain Break!

In kindergarten, we are working so hard that sometimes our brains need a break! Sometimes these brain breaks are as simple as standing up and wiggling our bodies to wake up a little. Other times, we play a quick game of "Mrs. Johnson Says," or "I Spy." With this class, more often than not, the brain break involves some sort of singing and dancing! These kids LOVE to shake their tail feathers! One of their favorite songs to dance to is "If You're A Kid, Dance Around!" They beg me for this "brain break" daily! Here is a link to this song. Go ahead, you can dance, too! The song is pretty catchy, trust me!

Happy New Year!

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful and restful holiday with your families. I was so happy to see your children's excited faces as they returned to school on Thursday! I meant to put this post up earlier, but time got away from me! So, here are some pictures of all of the holiday activities we did prior to leaving for vacation. It was a busy and fun time in Room 8!
We created ornaments out of tissue paper and glue to decorate our classroom with!

We spent a day learning about reindeer. We read the classic tale of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and an informational text about real reindeer. We then compared and contrasted Rudolph with real live reindeer, talking about the similarities and differences that we noticed. Then, of course, we created Rudolph hats to wear home!

We had lots of fun on our surprise Polar Express Day! It was a day filled with excitement, as we "traveled" to the North Pole in our pajamas. Mrs. Lasher was the official conductor and we had our tickets punched as we boarded the train. We had lots of fun decorating cookies, watching the Polar Express movie, and sipping hot cocoa. We even got a special package straight from the North Pole addressed to the H.C.S. Kindergarten. Mr. O'Hara delivered the freezing cold package to us and inside we found tiny silver bells for every single child! Santa wanted to make sure we had the bells to remember our special day!

On Thursday, we decorated Christmas trees with our third grade Big Buddies from Mrs. Feussner's class! We had so much fun and were so excited to bring our sweet creations home to enjoy!

Finally, please enjoy this slideshow of our Holiday Party. It was so wonderful to have so many of you join us for this special occasion! The children worked very hard to decorate our space and it looked to me like everyone had a great time! Thank you to all of you for the goodies you contributed!

As you can see, we were very busy! Hopefully, we built some special memories that the children will remember fondly!
