Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

We have had a wonderful couple of weeks in Room 8 and we are settling into our routine nicely! Some of the highlights from the past couple of weeks include:
  • Picture Day
  • Practicing our first fire drill
  • The caterpillar brought in by Charlie has entered the chrysalis stage!
  • We learned how to use the Smartboard and computers in our classroom
  • Earning stars for our "star pockets"
  • Making a class rhyming book, "Did You Ever See?"
  • Learning to sort shapes by their various attributes
  • Meeting Mrs. Pollack's (HCS math coordinator) dog, Ollie after being great listeners for her
  • Beginning Writer's Workshop
  • Chicka Chicka Boom Boom unit and party!
As you can see, we've been very busy! I've decided to highlight the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom book study we did here, as it was so much fun! We read this fun and repetitive book all week long and the children really learned the pattern of the text. Throughout the week, we did a number of activities around letters and the sequence of this text, including an alphabet matching game, making Chicka Chicka Boom Boom hats, decorating letters for our classroom coconut tree, and more! Today, we celebrated all of our hard work by watching a video of the story and eating a yummy snack inspired by the book. Please enjoy the photos of this unit below. Ask your child to tell you about some of the fun things we did!

Our edible coconut trees: chocolate wafers, apples, grapes, and Alphabits! Yum yum!

Chicka chicka boom boom,
will there be enough room?
