Mock Election

Today, we talked about what an important day it is for our country. We discussed what the job is of the President of the United States and it was very clear that you all have been talking about this at home. Some quotes from this discussion:

"It's the president's job to make everything fair."
"The president makes taxes so we can go to school."
"He signs a lot of papers and puts them in envelopes."

We read a book called Arthur Meets the President and talked about the candidates who were running for office. We learned some facts about each candidate and then talked about the voting process and how we, as Americans, all get to form our own opinions and make our own decisions about who we want to vote for. There was a mock election organized by some middle school students and we were invited to attend. It was all very official and the kids were thrilled to be able to participate.

Autumn has her name checked off the "voter registration list."

We voted for President and Governor.

Filling out our ballots

Sage puts her ballot in the ballot box.

Danica turns in her ballot.

We voted!

We had a lot of fun and can't wait to learn the results of our school-wide mock election! I hope you all had a chance to get out and vote today, too!
